What is Trenchless Pipe Repairs Sydney & How Does it Work?

Trenchless Pipe relining is new technology which has come into the plumbing market & revolutionised how drains are repaired

Pipe Relining Sydney
Pipe Relining Sydney

The Old Method

The traditional eel and excavation

In previous years if a drain or a junction or a section of pipework was affected by roots or became dislodged and began causing serious drain issues, the section which was affected had to be dug up, causing significant damage to driveways, yards and underneath pathways which meant the site would be turned upside down in order to have the pipe repaired.

This left the homeowners feeling stressed and anxious that a beautiful garden, or a concrete pathway or a section of stairs needed to be ripped up and destroyed

The New Method

Advanced trenchless pipe relining

Fast forward and today we now have the trenchless pipe repair technology and tools to tackle any pipe relining job one may have throughout Sydney and is a fantastic way of repairing your drains without causing extensive damage to one’s property.

It is a fast, seamless, and great way of basically lining your existing pipes with a 2-part resin which is mixed and inserted into the damaged pipe which comes with a 25-year warranty

What is the process?

Step 5
Trenchless Pipe Relining

Step 1

Clear the blockage

Once we have cleared the drain using our high pressure drain cleaners, a CCTV camera inspection is conducted on the line. All faults and issues will be recorded onto a USB with photos taken before any relining is completed.

Our camera has a sond in built into the cameras end meaning we can pinpoint exactly where issues are found above ground using a locater which transfers a signal to surface level with the exact depth and location

Trenchless Pipe Relining

Step 2

Preparing & inspecting the line

Once a reline has been given the green light, we need to thoroughly clean out the lines ensuring all roots, debris and any foreign matter is removed ensuring once the 2 part resin and liner are inserted into the pipe, it creates a strong bond between the pipe and material we are inserting into the line itself.

We run the risk of issues occurring during the reline process if this step is not exercised correctly

Trenchless Pipe Relining

Step 3

Beginning the relining process

Once we have marked out and cut the liner to exact length, the 2 part resin is poured into the liner and rolled out with the use of a roller to ensure even distribution occurs throughout the entire liner material.

Once this part has been completed, an inversion drum is used to inflate the liner onto the edges of the pipe. This is a critical part of the process. A loss of pressure or any sudden changes in excessive pressure need to be closely monitored closely as this could damage the liner.

The liner is now left to cure. The liner sets at a faster pace during summer. We can also add a summer agent to resin or use hot water to cure the liner at a faster pace

Trenchless Pipe Relining

Step 4

Completion & Inspection

Once the liner has formed and cured, a CCTV camera is sent into the drain and the entire resin is thoroughly inspected to ensure proper formation around the circumference of the pipe has been achieved.

All necessary junctions’ cuts using a robotic cutter is now sent through and cut where needed. A recording of the reline will be given to the homeowner for future reference

As part of the service we guarantee, we at Sydney’s Plumbing Specialists, will FREE OF CHARGE re-attend and inspect your drains every 12 months

In the unlikely event any issues are found, a warranty claim will be put through free of charge no questions asked!

Benefits of pipe relining over replacements

Blocked Drains Sydney
1

No damage to landscape property

No damage to landscaping is now required. We have had multiple jobs where homeowners have spent years perfecting their gardens and the thought of having all of that destroyed due to a sewer or stormwater pipe disheartening. Having the pipe relined now means the gardens and landscaped areas can remain intact

Blocked Drains Sydney
2

No excavation needed

No excavation of concrete, floorboards, tiled areas needed. Especially in older homes where if we needed to excavate down and replace a section of pipework out underneath a driveway for example, matching the existing concrete which has been there for years, matching the colour would be virtually impossible leaving the aesthetics of the concrete looking out of touch

Blocked Drains Sydney
3

Save thousands of dollars in costs

Put simply, you save thousands of dollars if the above needed to be completed and damage to concrete pathways or landscaped areas needed to be destroyed then reinstated. On average you will be saving about 40% on distances exceeding 6m of pipe relining which could have previously needed to be dug up and replaced

Answer: Pipe relining is a modern technology used for repairing damaged underground pipes. In this process, the pipe will first be cleaned out entirely from inside. After that and epoxy sleeve is inserted into it. This sleeve is then inflated and allowed to set for a few hours using a specialised technique. After this, the sleeve forms a seamless pipe within the pipe and significantly improves the usability of that feature. Pipe relining technology is an advanced process that a licensed plumbing operator can provide and cover with guarantees.

Answer: When there is any damage to underground pipes, it becomes very challenging to fix them. In the traditional method, large portions of the landscaping or hardscape would have to be dug out to reach the impacted pipe and replace the section. However, in pipe relining, an epoxy material is inserted into the damaged pipe after cleaning it out thoroughly. Once this epoxy or resin material has set and hardened within the pipe, it forms a very resilient layer inside, increasing the lifespan of the installation significantly.

Answer: Sewer relining is a modern technology that has changed the way damaged pipes are repaired. It is one of the most reliable and long-lasting methods of relining pipes. This epoxy lining can easily last for between 35 and 50 years. One of the best ways fix any kind of significant damage to sewage pipes is to get them relined. However, if you want this lining to last for a longer time, you should get regular maintenance done. During this maintenance, the licensed plumber will use CCTV cameras to inspect the pipe relining and determine its condition.

Pipe relining is new state of the art pipe repair technology used for repairing damaged underground sewer and stormwater pipework. In simple terms, it is placing a new pipe within an old damaged pipe without having to dig the damaged line out with the use of manual excavation. To begin the process, the line is jet blasted ensuring all roots and foreign objects are completely removed from within the pipe. Once the pipe has been cleared, an epoxy sleeve is inserted into the pipe using a 2-part resin. The sleeve is then inflated and allowed to cure for a few hours using a specialised technique. Once completed, the sleeve forms a seamless pipe within the pipe and significantly improves the usability of the pipe and provides a new pipe within the old damaged pipe.

All cracks, dislodgement and issues throughout drains can be relined. Drains which have completely collapsed cannot be relined. These lines need to be dug up and replaced. If your line has cracks visible throughout, the longer a line is left without having it relined, the risk of not being able to reline increases as time goes past by.

This is a question we get asked a lot. Relining is a task which requires a technician who understands drainage and how it works but also has experience in pipe relining as this is new state of the art technology. Pricing varies from job to job due to several factors and limitations, but an approximate guide is anywhere from $450-1000 per meter depending on size, location, and length. We can never quote via photos or provide estimates over the phone until a technician attends site. A quote is always on the spot once an inspection has been conducted.

Yes, vertical lines can be relined on both residential and commercial drains.

The team at Sydney’s Plumbing Specialists reline all residential and commercial drains throughout Sydney. The principals are all the same so working on either residential or commercial properties can be carried out. A lot more planning in commercial jobs is always required. Works can also be completed after hours or if noise restraints are in place.

We work with close to 20 strata companies throughout Sydney who all utlise or trenchless pipe reline solutions. We specialise in the strata field and are always happy to provide strata committees free advice and help wherever needed. We understand Strata plan buildings need a large amount of notice prior to any relining commencing.

Unfortunately, due to the size and radius of pool pipes, they cannot be relined.

There is a misconception that if a liner is installed into my pipe, the circumference of my pipes decreases and essentially causes issues. This is incorrect. The liner itself is 2-3mm thick and has no affect on how the drains run. If anything, the drains runs more effectively and efficiently as all damaged sections and issues are now flattened and smooth.

The smallest patch we can install will be 500mm and have runs over 100m if needed meaning we can tackle the small jobs and large-scale jobs on every level. We have small patching gear as well as the capability to do large relines at the one time.
Junctions – We can also reline over junctions which have been damaged. We use a robotic cutter to cut through junctions we have relined over on completion of the work.

25-year warranty is provided on the product itself but a 50+ year life expectancy is always expected if the reline has been installed correctly to begin with. One can have complete confidence in this product. It is a fantastic product which has so many benefits.

All work will be carried out in a timely and professional manner. We offer a complimentary visit annually to inspect the line with a camera to ensure its still in perfect condition and to ensure no further issues are present. Valued at $289

  • Underneath retaining walls where access is limited
  • Pipes or services where lines have been laid at a very deep depth. Once excavation passes 2.2m, timber shoring is required legally to protect trenches from collapsing. Relining saves time, risk, and money when lines have been installed at a depth past 2.2m and need replacing.
  • Underneath pool pumps and areas where machinery or equipment have been installed
  • Underneath pathways, concrete and roads
  • Near swimming pools
  • When lines run through properties or floors which previously would have be needed to be excavated down too, to rectify the issues.
  • High trafficable areas – all excavation can be avoided if we could reline
  • Where the risk of obstructing a gas, water or electricity service is noted to be nearby. Again, safety is at the upmost importance when excavation is being carried out. Relining eliminates all excavation needed.
